Early in the morning, we’ll participate in the spiritual “tak bat” ceremony, also known as the Alms Giving Ceremony. This meaningful cultural and religious tradition in Luang Prabang sees Buddhist monks gather alms from the local community, typically in the form of food offerings. In respect for the monks, local people offer simple food such as rice, fruits, and sweets. This ancient practice carries profound historical significance and is deeply revered in Luang Prabang. Following this serene ceremony, we return to the hotel for breakfast.
After breakfast, you’ll embark on a leisurely cruise upstream on the Mekong River, heading to Pak Ou Caves. Along the way, we will make a stop at Ban Xanghai Village, a traditional Lao whiskey distillery village. Here, you can observe the process of making special local whiskey from rice, known as Lao-Lao, and have the chance to taste the wine. The cruise will then take you to the famous Pak Ou Caves. Situated on a rocky cliff overlooking the Mekong River, the Pak Ou Caves consist of two caves: Tam Ting Cave and Tham Theung Cave, renowned for housing thousands of miniature Buddha statues made of wood, resin, earthenware, and even animal bones. Local legend holds that these statues have been kept there for hundreds of years. Lunch at a local restaurant.
In the afternoon, you’ll be transferred to visit the Royal Palace, also known as the National Museum of Luang Prabang. The palace features a blend of French and Laotian architecture and currently houses various collections of crown jewels, antique cars, royal objects, weapons, artwork, and more. Finally, enjoy the sunset from the top of Mount Phousi, which offers a panoramic view of Luang Prabang and the Mekong River. Return to your hotel and enjoy the evening exploring Luang Prabang’s night market. Overnight at the hotel in Luang Prabang.
