Begin your day with an exhilarating Barong and Kris dance show. This iconic performance, deeply rooted in Balinese spirituality, depicts the eternal battle between good (Barong) and evil (Rangda). The dance drama, Calon Arang, showcases Barong’s triumph over Rangda’s malevolent magic. Witness the dramatic trance state of the performers as they wield kris daggers, symbolizing the restoration of balance in nature by Barong.
Next, visit the sacred Tirta Empul Temple, one of Indonesia’s busiest and most revered water temples. Dedicated to Vishnu, the Hindu God of Water, this temple features holy springs created by the God Indra. These springs are believed to possess purifying powers for those who bathe in them.
Proceed to Kintamani for a delightful lunch with breathtaking views of Lake Batur and the majestic Batur Volcano. On the return journey, marvel at the verdant rice terraces of Tegallalang. These beautifully arranged paddies, framed by swaying coconut trees, follow the traditional Balinese irrigation system known as “subak.” Enjoy an overnight stay in Ubud.
Enjoy a leisurely breakfast at the hotel, followed by a free morning to relax or explore Ubud at your own pace. In the afternoon, we begin our journey with a visit to Pura Taman Ayun, one of Bali’s most attractive and visited temples. Built in the 17th century as a family temple for the Mengwi Empire, this temple boasts a sophisticated architectural design and has been declared a UNESCO world cultural tourism site.
Our final stop for the day is the iconic Tanah Lot Temple, perched on a small island in the sea. As one of the seven “sea temples” (pura segara) built along the southwest coast of Bali, it offers a stunning location to witness an incredible sunset. According to local legend, the temple was built in the 16th century when a Javanese priest, captivated by the beauty of the place, decided to sleep there. Before leaving, he instructed local fishermen to build a temple dedicated to the gods of the sea. After soaking in the breathtaking views, we transfer to your hotel in Nusa Dua.
After breakfast, embark on an exciting tour to the east, starting with the historic Kerta Gosa, the 18th-century Hall of Justice in Klungkung. This impressive complex, comprising the Bale Kerta Gosa and the Bale Kambang, was initiated by Dewa Agung Gusti Sideman in 1686 and completed under Dewa Agung Jambe’s rule in 1710. Initially designed as a hall of justice and a venue for crucial meetings in the Klungkung Kingdom, Kerta Gosa served as Bali’s highest court, overseeing and resolving disputes, particularly those tied to the caste system. Admire its exquisite Klungkung-style paintings and architecture.
Next, visit the charming fishing village of Kusamba, located about 20 minutes from Semarapura City in eastern Bali. This village is renowned for its traditional salt production, with villagers earning their livelihoods through fishing and natural salt-making. Enjoy a scenic drive along the coastal road with views of Nusa Penida, leading you to Goa Lawah, also known as the Bat Cave. This site is one of Bali’s “six sanctuaries of the world” and is considered one of the island’s holiest places. The temple, constructed around a cave mouth teeming with thousands of bats, offers a unique and spiritual experience.
After a delightful lunch, continue to the revered Besakih Temple, known as the “Mother Temple of Besakih.” Facing Mount Agung’s highest peak and located at an altitude of 900 meters, this grand temple complex has been a sacred site since ancient times. The name Besakih is derived from “Basuki,” which means Salvation in classical Sanskrit. According to Samudramanthana mythology, “Besuki” refers to the Dragon-God Naga Besukian, who is believed to inhabit Mount Agung. The first recorded mention of Besakih Temple dates back to 1007 AD, and since the 15th century, it has been regarded as the central temple of Hinduism in Bali.
Conclude your day with a visit to Tenganan, an original Balinese village where ancient traditions continue to thrive. Observe local women weaving the famous kamben geringsing (flaming cloth). Return to your hotel in Nusa Dua for a restful evening.
In the afternoon, journey to the southwestern tip of Bali to visit the stunning Uluwatu Temple, one of the island’s six key temples. Locally known as Pura Luhur Uluwatu (with “Luhur” meaning ‘something of divine origin’), this temple is a must-visit for those seeking a deep cultural experience. Renowned for its breathtaking location, Uluwatu Temple is perched atop a steep cliff approximately 70 meters above the crashing ocean below, providing a magnificent backdrop at sunset.
Experience the dramatic Kecak Dance, also known as the “monkey dance,” performed against the backdrop of the setting sun. This performance, set in such a spectacular environment, offers a captivating glimpse into Balinese culture. After the show, return to your hotel for the night.
Enjoy a leisurely breakfast at the hotel. Spend your final hours in Bali at your own pace until it’s time for your transfer to the airport for your departure flight, bringing your unforgettable Balinese adventure to a close.
