Our morning adventure starts with a tuk-tuk visit to the ancient capital of Angkor Thom, built in the 12th century and steeped in rich history and architectural wonders. Arrive at the South Gate, adorned with towering statues depicting the mythical churning of the ocean of milk—a mesmerizing symbol from Hindu mythology. Next, we will delve into the heart of Angkor Thom to discover the magnificent Bayon Temple, renowned for its 54 towers adorned with over 200 enigmatic smiling faces of Avalokiteshvara, a Bodhisattva symbolizing compassion. Continue your exploration to the mystical Phimeanakas, the Royal Enclosure, the ornate Elephants Terrace, and the Terrace of the Leper King, all epitomizing Khmer architectural splendor and historical significance. Lunch at a local restaurant.
In the afternoon, we’ll depart by car to visit Ta Prohm temple, revered as one of the region’s most exquisite temples, remaining remarkably preserved since its discovery, enveloped in an aura of mystery. This temple, known for its intricate stone carvings and jungle-covered ruins, captivatingly appeared in the Hollywood movie “Tomb Raider,” starring Angelina Jolie. Following this, we’ll explore the iconic Angkor Wat – Cambodia’s national symbol, built around the 12th century. Spanning an expansive 81 hectares with five towers, this temple represents the pinnacle of Khmer art and architecture, holding profound cultural significance. Conclude your day by experiencing the enchanting sunset from the top of the Pre Rup or Phnom Ba Kheng temple.

Following this enlightening experience, you’ll participate in the cherished tradition of alms offering and monk blessing ceremony. The monk will gently chant blessings, sprinkle holy water, and delicately place a protective bracelet on your wrist, symbolizing protection from negative energies and bestowing blessings of health and fortune upon you and your loved ones. Next, we’ll journey to the pier on the city’s outskirts, boarding a quaint boat for a serene cruise across the expansive Tonle Sap Lake, renowned as Southeast Asia’s largest freshwater lake. As you cruise along its tranquil surface, you’ll encounter a captivating floating village with floating stilt houses, restaurants, and even a school. Return to the pier where our driver awaits. On the way back, we will stop by Artisans Angkor, also known as Artisans d’Angkor, where you will find a wide range of authentic handmade products crafted by Cambodian artists. Established in 1999, this social enterprise was established to revive traditional Khmer craftsmanship and provide sustainable employment opportunities for rural Cambodian artisans.

Return to your hotel to refresh before joining the traditional Khmer dinner with an Apsara dance at a local restaurant. Rooted in Hindu mythology, Apsara (which means ‘celestial spirit’ or ‘water nymph’) tells legends and religious tales through the graceful movements of the dancers’ hands and feet, accompanied by traditional customs. This performance is recognized as UNESCO’s World Intangible Cultural Heritage.
