Vietnam Airlines to Launch Direct Flights Between Hanoi and Phnom Penh on October 27

Vietnam Airlines is set to launch a new direct route connecting Hanoi and Phnom Penh, commencing on October 27, 2024. This route, which will operate four times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays using Airbus A321 aircraft, marks a significant milestone in strengthening tourism and business ties between Vietnam and Cambodia.

The introduction of this direct flight coincides with the visit of His Excellency To Lam, President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, to Cambodia. The inauguration ceremony, attended by prominent figures including Cambodia’s Minister of Tourism, His Excellency Sok Soken, also witnessed the signing of key cooperation agreements aimed at promoting tourism between the two nations under the “Two Countries, One Destination” initiative.

Currently, travelers between Hanoi and Phnom Penh must transit through Vientiane, Laos, but this new service will streamline travel, enhancing convenience and connectivity. The route is part of Vietnam Airlines’ broader strategy to expand its network in Cambodia, which has become an increasingly important market. The airline has a long history of connecting the two countries, with over 31 years of service and more than 81,000 flights, carrying millions of passengers.

As tourism between Vietnam and Cambodia continues to grow, the new direct flights are expected to attract not only local travelers but also international tourists from regions like Japan, South Korea, and Europe, further boosting economic and cultural ties. With Vietnam ranking as the second-largest source of tourists to Cambodia in 2023, and Cambodia becoming one of Vietnam’s fastest-growing markets, this new route is poised to play a crucial role in the continued development of aviation and tourism between the two neighboring countries.
